A study of Rn-222 emanation in electrodeposited sources of Ra-226 with barium

摘要
A study of Rn-222 emanation in electrodeposited Ra-226 sources was performed. The loss of radon by emanation from the electrodeposited sources was observed by measuring the Rn-222/Ra-226 activity ratio at various times after the start of source preparation, and a quantification of this phenomenon was developed assuming a radon diffusion term in the ingrowth equations. The effect of the barium contained in the electrolyte solution on the radon emanation was also studied. The resulting Rn-222 diffusion factor was observed to depend on the amount of barium added to the electrolyte and ranged between 0.091 and 0.178 days(-1).
