Blood compatibility and safety evaluation of a novel blood perfusion material from konjac glucomannan

摘要
The blood compatibility and safety evaluation of the sulfated cross-linked gluconannan gel beans (KGMSB) were studied. Tests were followed the International Standard for biological evaluation of medical devices (ISO 10993). Results showed that the hemolysis rate was 0.698 +/- 0.054%, the counts of white blood cell, red blood cell, reticulocyte, etc were not changed significantly (P > 0.05). After adsorption, the count of platelets was changed significantly (0.01 < P < 0.05). However, the platelet aggregation rate and the partial prothrombin time (PTT) were not changed significantly (P > 0.05). Results indicated that the material could partially adsorb platelets, but that didn't affect the blood coagulation function. The safety tests showed that the material was safe and nontoxic, little irritation effect to skin, and the content of pyrogen was measured up. KGMSB is a promising substance to be developed into a novel blood perfusion material.
