摘要
This study compares the BaseT and Passive Optical (POL) in local area networks energy consumption, in order to verify if it is economically advantageous to replace the BaseT equipment for the passive optical ones. Analytical models and simulations were evaluated considering traditional and energy-saving supported configurations. The hypothesis is the statement that the mere transmission technology substitution does not guarantee the reduction of energy consumption. The results indicate that the energy consumption levels depends on the network equipment and even associated infrastructure, such as air conditioning units. This study was based on the needs of the Department of Technology of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil.
