Impact of Some Novel Synthesized Cationic Surfactants on the Corrosion of Carbon Steel in 1M HCl Solutions

摘要
The corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in 1 M HCl solutions was studied in the presence of two synthesized cationic surfactants: N, N, N-tributylhexan-1-aminium bromide and N, N, N-tributyldodecan-1-aminium bromide. Gravimetric, electrochemical, and surface analysis techniques were used to describe the corrosion behavior in blank and inhibiting solutions. Weight loss was estimated in the absence and presence of different additives. The studies were achieved at various temperatures (25-45 degrees C). The thermodynamic parameters were determined. Potentiodynamic polarization (PP) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) were used as electrochemical techniques at 25 degrees C. The inhibition efficiency increases with the concentration. The two surfactants behave as mixed corrosion inhibitors. It was found that the adsorption process obeys Langmuir isotherm. Adsorption and kinetics parameters were calculated and then explained. The surface morphology of the C-steel and the formed protective film were examined using SEM, AFM, and FTIR spectroscopy. The data obtained from various techniques were in good agreement.
