Magnetic and transport properties of oxygen-deficient perovskite LnBaCo(2)O(5.5) (Ln=Sm, Gd) single crystals have been studied. GdBaCo2O5.5 exhibits successive metal-insulator, ferromagnetic, and antiferromagnetic transitions. On the other hand, SmBaCo2O5.5 exhibits only an antiferromagnetic transition. The results could be attributed to the difference in Co3+ spin states of theses two systems.
