Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) has proved to be an essential tool in the diagnosis of pancreatic disorders. But, after its initial popularity, the actual impact of this examination in diagnosing CP has been disappointing: EUS seems to be used only for early forms of CP. Firstly, we will try to define exactly what is meant by "early forms of CP", and then we will discuss the role of EUS in comparison with other kinds of examination, in the light of the recently published Rosemont international classification.
