House of honest pleasure (1620) by Salas Barbadillo and the role of women in the literature and art of the Golden Age

This paper studies the literary and artistic ideal represented in Casa del placer honesto -a collection by Salas Barbadillo, published in 1620, who used the academic form as its cornice, or framework - with special focus on its apparent misogyny. Through the analysis of the partially negative portrayal of the characters, the comicality of ordinances regulating the academy and the tribute to dona Ana de Zuazo, a woman lauded by Salas for her intelligence, the conclusion is that the model of Casa del placer honesto does not reflect the thinking of the author respecting women's access to the world of art and literature.
