Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Terminal Ileum

Neuroendocrine carcinomas are a rare diagnosis with a wide variety of symptoms from asymptomatic to flush symptoms due to liver metastasis presented by the patients at admission. We report about a 39-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital with anaemia of unknown origin and recurrent lower abdominal pain. We performed a colonoscopy and found coincidentally a neuroendocrine carcinoma. She had no diarrhoea, obstipation or flush symptoms. The abdominal cat scan revealed no hint for metastases and no suspect lymph nodes. An endoscopic resection seemed to be too risky. Therefore we decided to perform a laparoscopic resection of the ileocoecal region with an ileoascendostomie. The classification of the carcinoma was pT2 N1 (1/26) MO, LO, V1 and a RO resection.
