摘要
With the proliferation of high-bandwidth applications based on big data analytics and Internet-of-Things, mode division multiplexing (MDM) has emerged as new technology for transmitting multiple data channels through several orthogonal modes in a single optical fiber to increase the aggregate capacity. Nevertheless, MDM still suffers from several challenges, including mode coupling which causes dispersion of the transmitted pulse. This paper introduces a new optical Laguerre-Gaussian MDM scheme with electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) to mitigate mode coupling. A data rate of 40 Gbit/s up to a distance of 2 km has been achieved.
