Sabo dams are an obstacle for upstream and downstream migrations of aquatic animals in river. When the height of Sabo dam is high, a fishway with a zigzag route has been constructed. But, hydraulic characteristics of such a fishway in flood stage have not been made clear, and a lot of gravel is left in the pool after flood stage. In this paper, flow characteristics of the fishway with the zigzag route have been investigated for flood stages. The shape of the fishway has been proposed in order that there is no sediment in the turning position of the fishway after flood stage. Hydraulic characteristics in the turning position of the proposed fishway have been shown. Further, the effect of the location of the downstream end of the fishway on flow characteristics downstream of the fishway has been shown.
