Ballooning instability effect on the profiles of power deposition on divertor targets

摘要
A simple practical model is proposed to take into account the limitation of the radial pressure gradient due to ballooning modes in 2D modelling of the edge and divertor plasma. The first attempts at modelling the present-day machines show the possibility to reproduce, without special adjustment of the transport coefficients, the experimentally observed, non-monotonic variation of the scrape-off layer (SOL) width with the discharge power in the H-mode. This effect can be especially important for reactor-scale tokamaks such as ITER, working in H-mode with high power.
