Experience of application of protectors made of Al-Zn-Ca alloys

Protective materials made of Al-Zn-Ca alloys are successfully used for the protection of underground and underwater pipelines, reservoirs, and oil storage. These alloys are known as ATsK and ATsKM alloys and they do not require activation solution unlike conventional aluminum protectors. These materials are tested in soils under specific resistance to check the characteristics of protectors of Al-Zn-Ca system, and the result shows that they guarantee a fairly reliable protection of objects. ATsK protectors also show advantage over the standard AP-3 protectors in the case of the protection of deep-sea vessels. Commercial application of the alloys is tested on the objects operating in various corrosive soils and in various natural liquid media. The comparative tests of protectors made of Al-Zn-Ca alloys and conventional magnesium protectors show that the values of anodic current for ATsK protectors are lower than for magnesium protectors, but their service time is eight times longer.
