Reduction of Euler-Lagrange equations in general gauge theories with external fields

摘要
We present an iterative reduction procedure to the canonical form for the Euler-Lagrange equations of a general gauge theory. That procedure reveals the constraints in the Lagrangian formulation of singular systems and allows to find the gauge identities between the Euler-Lagrange equations. It is demonstrated for theories with higher derivatives. The influence of external fields is discussed.
