The specific goal of this research paper is to discover the condition of ancient Javanese manuscripts kept in the Reksa Pustaka Library in the Mangkunegaran Palace in Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. The method used is qualitative-implementative and as such, several activities were designed based on the goal and problems encountered in the location of the research. The results of the research show that the ancient Javanese manuscripts in the Javanese kings' collection in the Reksa Pustaka Library are not in good condition. More than 50 percent of a total of over one thousand manuscripts are in a very poor condition (damaged, torn, broken, or eaten by insects). The process of digitization is urgently needed through a system of cooperation. This research is an endeavour to preserve or salvage part of the wealth of Indonesia's cultural heritage which is now beginning to gain the serious attention of the government, academics, cultural experts, and the general public.
