The article deals with Soviet war fiction of the early 1940s examined in the light of the poetics of the horror genre. It focuses on rhetorical aspects of the literature of this kind and seeks to identify the system of moral values underlying the works of several prominent Soviet writers, including Mikhail Sholokhov, Fyodor Panferov, and Wanda Wasilewska.
