Denervation of the hip joint in the management of canine hip dysplasia and arthrosis

A new surgical technique is presented for treatment of the canine hip dysplasia and arthrosis: Denervation is a selective neurotomy of sensitive nerve fibres of the joint capsule, which immediately induces a permanent analgesia of the hip joint. The lameness disappeares. In the last 3 1/2 years we operated 131 dogs of different breeds and degree of hip dysplasia in this way. The simplicity of the surgical technique and the good results of denervation present a remarkable alternative for the other palliative and reconstructive operations for treatment of hip dysplasia and arthrosis.
