INFLUENCE OF SHORT-TIME THERMAL AGING ON XLPE INSULATION PROPERTIES OF HVDC CABLE

摘要
The accelerated thermal aging experiments were performed on high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable crosslinked polythene (XLPE) insulation under the temperature of 403K and 423K with no oxygen and 2% oxygen, respectively. The effects of aging time, temperature and oxygen content on the electrical and mechanical properties of XLPE insulation were studied. The experimental results indicated: both the conductivity and breakdown field strength of XLPE reduced at the early stage of thermal aging, and the higher the aging temperature was, the lower the conductivity and breakdown field strength were; permittivity decreased firstly and then increased with the elongation of aging time, and the dissipation factor increased; thermal aging led to the pyrolysis of macromolecular chain of XLPE; thermal aging made the tensile strength of the insulation increased firstly and then decreased, and the breaking elongation of XLPE increased; oxygen content had little effect on the thermal aging properties of insulation.
