The purpose of this paper is to describe an evaluation approach to the determination of the economic impact of Advanced Telematic Services (ATS) in agriculture in rural areas of the European Union. The evaluation approach is split into two parts: a scenario analysis for estimating the farmers' demand for ATS, providing economically viable Rural Area Networks (RANs) and an economic evaluation of the whole evolution process for the introduction of ATS. A case study of a rural area of Greece is described.
