Many new wireless transmission systems will use OFDMA as access scheme, also in uplink. In this paper we present the effect on each user's Signal to Interference Ratio (SIR), if synchronization is done only at terminal transmitter side by pre-correcting with the measured downlink Carrier Frequency Offset. After characterizing the downlink CFO estimation and the resulting residual frequency error, a mathematical model of the OFDMA transmission is given, that allows the evaluation of the Inter Carrier Interference for any given spectrum assignment of the users, including standard OFDM.
