摘要
TRAFFIC ENGINEERS ARE FACED WITH SAFETY CHALLENGES AT RURAL, HIGH-SPEED, SIGNALIZED INTERSECTIONS. TRADITIONAL MULTIPLE ADVANCE DETECTOR SYSTEMS PROVIDE GREEN EXTENSION AND PREVENT REAR-END CRASHES; HOWEVER, SEVERAL DEFICIENCIES LIMIT THEIR SAFETY BENEFIT. AN INNOVATIVE DETECTION-CONTROL SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED FOR TXDOT TO REDUCE CRASHES AT RURAL INTERSECTIONS AND PROVIDE TRUCK PRIORITY.
