The 30th annual National Craft Championships (NCC) was held in Fort Lauderdale on March 1-2, 2017. Created by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC), this competition is designed to spotlight careers in construction. The event hosted 15 competitions representing 13 crafts including welding, sheet metal, plumbing, pipefitting, millwright/industrial maintenance mechanic and masonry. The first day of the competition had a written exam based on the Contren® Learning Series Core Curriculum modules developed by NCCER. The second day comprised of a 6 hour, hands-on-practical performance test measuring a range of skills, including workmanship, project disassembly and safety. The welding portion of the competition consists of two separate classifications, structural welding and pipe welding. The individual welding competitions also had their unique parameters and scoring criteria.
