Synthesis of Sr2PrO4:: a Pr4+-containing oxide in the Sr2PbO4 structure type

摘要
Polycrystalline Sr2PrO4 was prepared from SrCO3 and Pr6O11 at 1000 degrees C. The structure was solved by Rietveld refinement of synchrotron powder X-ray data. The structure was refined in space group Pbam, with a=6.12382(3) Angstrom, b=10.28083(5) Angstrom, and c=3.58963(2) Angstrom and is isostructural to Sr2PbO4. The structure consists of infinite chains of edge shared PrO6 octahedra connected by a perpendicular network of SrO6 trigonal prisms. Thermogravimetric analysis, diffuse reflectance measurements, and magnetic susceptibility measurements (1.20(4) mu(B)) are all consistent with tetravalent praseodymium. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science S.A.
