摘要
A new silver-containing (20 wt.%) ceramics has been prepared by impregnating natural kaolin with silver nitrate following high-temperature annealing. The catalyst exhibits excellent activity and selectivity during the methanol oxidation to formaldehyde with the yield of up to 89.3%. Before reaction, the silver in the catalyst is present in an extremely thermally stable ionic state incorporated within the framework of the ceramics. Upon catalytic reaction, well-dispersed metallic silver (particle size similar to 800 nm) are obtained on the surface of the ceramic support owing to the chemical reduction. The high formaldehyde yield of the catalyst is due to the positive charge on silver. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
