Carbon monoxide poisoning. Important differential diagnosis in patients with disturbed consciousness

摘要：
Evidence of severe carbon monoxide poisoning in addition to alcohol poisoning could be measured preclinically by non-invasive methods using a portable device. Given the underestimated frequency of carbon monoxide poisoning and its long-term effects an immediate test for carboxyhemoglobin and a correlate risk analysis are recommended whenever loss of consciousness is suspected in order to facilitate prompt diagnosis and therapy in order to minimize such effects.
