摘要
In the changes of the meaning and importance of the concepts of taste, fashion and poetics, as well as in the changes of their mutual relation the development and status of literature in modernity and postmodernity is evident. Certain agreement, as well as constant tension between taste and poetics which has been present throughout the history of European literature, is undermined primarily by aesthetics which ever since Kant has favoured taste over traditional poetics. A turning point is reached when taste gives way to fashion which due to the fast pace of change and seeming freedom to choose challenges general principles underpinning taste and sets new ideals governed solely by market.
