Design and microstructures of Ti/TiAl/Al system functionally graded material

摘要
TiAl to Al was joined using an Al-based brazing filler metal. It is found that during brazing process, the element Si in the brazing alloy diffused to surface of TiAl, Ti-Si compound being produced there. The dense Ti/TiAl/Al graded material was fabricated by hot-press sintering of Ti/Ti+TiAl/TiAl at 1473 K and subsequent brazing of the TiAl side to Al at 853 K. During sintering, the chemical reaction of Ti+TiAl→AlTi2 occurred within not only the mixed layer of Ti+TiAl but also the adjacent Ti layer and TiAl layer. As a consequence, finer graded microstructures were formed within the sintered body. The density of the Ti/TiAl/Al graded material changes quasi-continuously from 4.52 g/cm3 to 2.70 g/cm3 in its thickness direction.
