摘要
trendscarbo Galectin-3 (Gal-3) is a body protein which contains a carbohydrate-recognition-binding domain of about 130 amino acids important in various biological processes and has been demonstrated to be involved in causing cancer. Herein, pectin and two of its metal ion derivatives were investigated for their in vitro interaction with mammalian Gal-3 to evaluate their potential as anti-cancer agents. In the present work pectin was extracted from the citrus peel (of Citrus reticulata) and then derivatized to sodium pectinate and zinc pectinate. Pectin and its derivatives were well characterized by FTIR, XRD, SEM and particle size analysis. Interaction studies were carried out with density and sound analysis (DSA) and fluorescence study. It was revealed therefrom that pectin and its derivatives interact well with Gal-3, with the two pectinates displaying enhanced interactions with Gal-3 than the pristine pectin revealing that pectin derivatives have potential for use as anticancer agents.
