Eu-doped YAG phosphors co-doped with Ca2+ divalent ions were produced by the modified sol-gel method. The influence of the Ca2+ co-dopant was studied through X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL) and radioluminescence (RL) measurements. XRD results did not reveals an influence of the Ca2+ co-doping on the structural properties of the Eu-doped YAG phosphors. The optical measurements showed the typical transitions of Eu3+ ions, with emission in the orange-red spectral region, and that a change in local symmetry around the Eu ion occurred due to the Ca2+ co-dopant. The emission excited by X-rays (RL) confirmed the good stability of the YAG, when submitted to high energy radiation.
