Coverage Analysis of Cell-Edge Users in Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface-Assisted Cellular Networks

摘要
We study the coverage probability of cell-edge users in a cellular network where reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs), plains of low-cost antenna elements that improve wireless channel quality by providing auxiliary transmission paths, are employed for signal power enhancement. We model the locations of cell-edge users as a Poisson hole process (PHP) in which each user is paired with a RIS. By leveraging tools from stochastic geometry, we derive a analytical-form expression for the coverage probability, accounting for effects from channel fading, path loss, and interference that arised from co-channel transmissions of the base stations as well as those reflected by the RISs. The analytical results are corroborated by simulations and provide useful insights to the deployment of RISs in a cellular system.
