A long with prematurity and chronic lung disease, the presence of congenital cardiac disease in infants and young children is a significant risk for the clinical consequences of an illness produced by infection with the respiratory syncytial virus.1 In this review, we present a current understanding of such illnesses, their prevention, and their treatment. © 2006 Cambridge University Press.
