摘要
This paper presents a case study for an approach toward the regionalization of solid waste management facilities. A shared facility of engineered landfill termed divisional landfill has been proposed for the regional level waste management of the Prayagraj division (that consists of four cities). The total quantity of waste produced by the entire division was 1,000 metric ton (MT)/day and that corresponded to an area required for the landfill facility for the entire division of 64 acres. The potential sites for the feasibility of divisional landfill in the Prayagraj division were selected using ArcGIS software. The ranking of sites to find the best site between all the potential sites was carried out by providing appropriate weighting to different attributes according to the site ranking criteria provided by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) (MoEF 1991) and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Government of India (CPCB 2003). This paper concluded that the divisional landfill might prove to be an effective and economic solution for waste management in the densely populated state of Uttar Pradesh (UP), India.
