Two one-dimensional cadmium(II) coordination polymers, [Cd(MDPhHIDC)(H2O)(2)](n) (1) (MDPhH3IDC = 2-(3,4methylenedioxyphenyl)- 1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxylic acid) and [Cd(MDPhHIDC)(2,2'bipy)](n) (2) (2,2'bipy = 2,2'bipyridine), have been hydrothermally synthesized, and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analyses and IR spectra. In 1, the strong O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonding interactions contribute to the 3-D supramolecular structures. However, the weak C-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen bonding and p-p stacking interactions supply the additional stability effect for the solid-state structure of polymer 2. Furthermore, the thermal and solid-state luminescent properties of the two polymers have been investigated as well.
