In this work, beta-cyclodextrin grafted polyacrylamide (beta-CD-PAM) has been synthesized and deployed as a green corrosion inhibitor for pipeline steel (X80 steel) in 1 mol/L sulfuric acid solution. The corrosion inhibiting performance of beta-CD-PAM was evaluated at different concentrations and temperatures using weight-loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) and infrared spectra methods. The results showed that the corrosion of X80 steel in sulfuric corrosion solution was efficiently inhibited by beta-CDPAM. The favorable performance was ascribed to the formation of beta-CD-PAM adsorption films, which followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Electrochemical experimental results showed that beta-CD-PAM was a mixed type corrosion inhibitor predominantly as cathodic inhibitor. In addition, beta-CD-PAM is adjudged an effective and green corrosion inhibitor and can be utilized as a potential corrosion inhibitor in oil and gas production. (C) 2020 Elsevier B.V.
