Thermodynamics of solvation of proton and chloride ion in alcohols

A method is proposed for estimating the solvation entropy, enthalpy, and Gibbs free energy of individual H+ and Cl- ions in a series of alcohols, based on the previously derived correlation equations. Proton and chloride ion solvation in a series of alcohols from methanol to nonanol at 278.15-328.15 K (at a 10 K step) is thermodynamically analyzed. It is shown that the solvation of hydrogen chloride is essentially determined by proton solvation.
