摘要
Magnetization of the alpha-Bi2O3 single crystal was measured in the field cooling conditions. A dramatic rise of the magnetic moment as compared with that measured in the zero field cooling conditions was found when the crystal was cooled from room temperature down to 4.2 K in rather weak external constant magnetic fields of about several hundreds of Oe. Linear longitudinal magnetoelectric effect was revealed at 4.2 K for the alpha-Bi2O3 single crystal. The existence of a system of paramagnetic centers in the electron subsystem of the bismuth oxide was proposed as an origin of the observed magnetoelectric effect.
