摘要
One of the objectives of the new version of the time-of-flight spectrometer IN4 is to increase the flux at the sample position and to maintain optimised resolution performance. It has been of major importance to design and fabricate a large area (440 cm(2)) monochromator, having both vertical and horizontal focussing. The monochromator assembly consists of four faces at 90 degrees, with 55 individual crystals of 2 x 4 cm(2) on each face. By optimising the vertical and horizontal focalisation, a time-pulsed flux of 1.4 x 10(5) n/cm(2)/s was found at the sample position at a wavelength of 1.1 Angstrom, i.e. an increase up to a factor of 5 with respect to the hat configuration.
