Luminescence of Ce3+ in some compounds in the system CaO-SiO2-CaCl2

摘要
Photoluminescence of Ce3+ activated chlorosilicates of calcium, viz. Ca2SiO3Cl2, Ca3SiO4Cl2, Ca-7(SiO4)(2)Cl-6, Calo(Si2O7)(3)Cl-2 prepared by solid state reactions is reported for the first time. All four phosphors exhibit emission in the near ultraviolet region. It is a bit unusual in that the characteristic doublet feature is not observed in the emission spectrum. Excitation spectra did not show full fivefold splitting of D states despite low symmetry. Lifetime measurements have also been carried out. Lifetimes in the range 30-37 ns are typical of silicate environment.
