摘要
The storage in grids and its value apart from leading storage technologies and its effects on grid operations are discussed. Storage plays an important role in managing new and more complex networks. The US Congress has provided increased funding for storage in the electric grid and significant finances to advance storage devices for PHEV. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has advanced CAES program designed around a simpler system using advanced turbine technology. A large variety of battery types are being used for grid support application such as sodium sulfur batteries. Storage systems used in grid applications benefit from the huge investment in electric-based transportation. The real technology challenge will be making all of the new electric power resources function in a fully integrated 'smart grid'.
