Synthesis of [Ru(acac)(2)(CH3CN)(1)]ClO4 has been achieved by an oxidation of [Ru(acac)(2)(CH3CN)(2)] with AgClO4 or a Ce(IV) salt. The complex [Ru(acac)(2)L-2]ClO4 [ where L = py, 3Me-py, 4Me-py, PPh3, AsPh3, 3,5-dimethylpyrazole(dmpzH), imidazole(Im), or benzimidazole(BzIm), L-2= 2,2'-bipyridine(bipy) or 1,10-phenanthroline(phen)] has been synthesized either by the displacement of CH3CN in [Ru(acac)(2)(CH3CN)(2)]ClO4 by L or L-2 or by the oxidation of [Ru(acac)(2)L-2] using AgClO4 or 3 Ce(IV) salt and characterized using elemental analyses, magnetic and conductivity data, IR, UV-visible, H-1 NMR and ESR spectral data and cyclic voltammetric studies.
