Enhanced superconductivity in metallic oxides near the metal-insulator transition

Several metallic oxide conductors reported in the literature undergo a metal-insulator transition (MIT). We have found that their reported superconducting transition temperatures T-c are significantly enhanced in the vicinity of the MIT. We constructed a superconductivity phase diagram (T-c vs sigma, the conductivity) for each system and found that they are remarkably similar. The same behavior was found previously for a number of low-T-c superconductors. These results suggest that there is a common mechanism for the enhancement of superconductivity near the MIT.
