摘要
The Little River Pond Mill is a wind-powered, low speed aerator. This aerator was installed in a dugout and wastewater lagoon to examine its impact on their water/wastewater quality. Tests were conducted to obtain the oxygen transfer rate of the aerator. Both the dugout and the lagoon installations demonstrated strong mixing capabilities of the aerator at low wind speeds. With the installation of the aerator, the dugout and the lagoon showed a reduction in BOD and NH3-N. The oxygen transfer rate for the aerator was found to be 1.47 g O-2/W h at an average wind speed of 5 m/s comparable to the other aerators in the market. The advantages of this aerator are low maintenance, low cost and strong mixing capabilities. The uses of such aerators, which use renewable energy and are environmentally friendly is an excellent option for improving the lagoon effluent quality.
