Laser-induced (4965 Å) B1Πu→X1Σ+g fluorescence of Na2

Selective excitation of Na-2, B(1)Pi --> X(1)Sigma(g)(+) band system, using 4965.08 Angstrom from an Argon ion laser has been Y analyzed in detail. Twenty-one fluorescence series have been observed and analyzed. Twelve fluorescence series are reported for the first time. The radiative transition probabilities and radiative lifetimes for the observed fluorescence series were calculated using potential energy curves for both B(1)Pi(u) and X(1)Sigma(g)(+) states and a B-X transition dipole moment function. The transition probabilities and lifetimes agree with the observed measurements usually within the experimental uncertainty. A strong rotational satellite structure, of jumps with DeltaJ = +/-1, +/-2,...,+/-26 especially for some intense bands of the nu' = 7, J' = 43 --> nu", J" = 44 and 42 fluorescence series, was also analyzed.
