摘要：
The decay out of a superdeformed (SD) band feeds normally deformed (ND) states with the same spin. The ND states then decay by gamma emission. For nuclei in the Pb region, the ND states lie at excitation energies which are so high that a statistical approach is called for. I review recent theoretical developments of the statistical theory and their application to experimental data.
