Review of the subgenus Xizicus (Xizicus) Gorochov, 1993 ( Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae: Meconematinae) from China

Gorochov (1993) erected the subgenus Xizicus (Xizicus), with the type species Xizicus (Xizicus) fascipes (Bey-Bienko, 1955). This subgenus is distinguished from the other subgenera of Xizicus by the following characters: male tenth abdominal tergite with a pair of contiguous posterior processes in the middle; subgenital plate simple, styli slender, located on the apices or subapices of lateral margins; posterior margin of female subgenital plate rounded. Gorochov (1993) transferred Xiphidiopsis juxtafurca Xia & Liu, 1990 to Xizicus (Xizicus). Later, Gorochov (1998) described one new species, i. e. Xizicus (Xizicus) proximus Gorochov, 1998, and Gorochov (2011) described another new species, Xizicus (Xizicus) daedalus Gorochov, 2011. Wang et al. (2014) transferred Xiphidiopsis spinicauda Sanger & Helfert, 1998 to this subgenus. At present, the subgenus includes 5 species, 2 species of which are distributed in China. In this paper, we describe one new species, i. e. Xizicus (Xizicus) tricercus Feng, Shi & Mao sp. nov., and present illustrations of important morphological characters of Xizicus (Xizicus) fascipes (Bey-Bienko, 1955) and Xizicus (Xizicus) juxtafurcus (Xia & Liu, 1990). The following conventions were adopted for the specimen measurements: body-the distance from apex of fastigium verticis to posterior margin of tenth abdominal tergite; tegmen-the distance from base of tegmen to apex; pronotum-the distance from anterior margin of pronotum to the posterior margin; hind femur-the distance from base of hind femur to the apex of genicular lobe; ovipositor-the distance from the base of subgenital plate to the apex of ovipositor.
