Inhibiting effect of Layered Double Hydroxides on the emissions of volatile organic compounds from bituminous materials

摘要
The effect of Layered Double Hydroxides (LDHs) additives as VOC emission inhibitor for bituminous materials was studied in this research. Ion histogram of volatile compounds from bituminous material was obtained by means of Thermogravimetry-Mass Spectrometry analysis. Results obtained for the pure bitumen and LDHs-modified bitumen show that LDHs modifier has the potential to reduce the volatile speed and amount of VOC emissions. The reduction effect varies on different molecules or compounds. The reduction effect on volatile speed is significant with smaller molecules. The effect of LDHs on the volatile speed of more carcinogenic volatile compounds shows that the reduction in speed is significantly bigger on dichloroethane and naphthalene than that on normal octane. The study findings indicate that four percent of LDHs is an optimum in achieving the best emission reduction of VOC for the investigated bituminous material. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
