Influence of light exposure on olive fruit growth and composition

摘要
For the Frantoio cultivar, the individually shaded fruits compared to controls showed higher oil content with high crop load, while the dry weight was the same. The fruits of shaded trees showed dry weight, pulp-stone ratio and oil content lower than the controls. In low crop load trees, the canopy shading was ininfluent on fruit dry weight, while it drammatically reduced fruit oil content. The reduction of oil synthesis occured mainly during the period of higher intensity of oil accumulation between September 20 and October 30. The light not only influences the level of assimilates and fruit size, but it largely effects oil synthesis, also if good nutritive levels are available.
