Fracture of PZT piezoelectric ceramics under compression-compression loading

摘要
The fracture and fatigue crack growth at notches in lead zirconate titanate ceramics were examined under cyclic compression-compression loading. The large strain was produced by a ferroelastic deformation produced by switching of non-180° ferroelectric domain walls. Compressive loading parallel to the poling direction produced significant irreversible strain by the switching of non-180° ferroelectric domain walls, while compression testing perpendicular to the poling axis produced a relatively small irreversible strain.
