Synthesis of the gamma-lactone unit of CP-225,917 and CP-263,114 is reported by differentiation of a diester at C14 using either selective monohydrolysis or lactonisation of a C26-alcohol. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
