The Cyprus energy scene is first presented in this paper and it is shown that 6.5% of the annual energy demand is provided from solar energy. This energy is mainly used in the domestic sector (93.5%) for hot water production. The present status of the Cyprus solar water heating industry is then presented followed by analysis of the various possible problems faced during the life of a solar water heating system with respect to poor hot water quality (temperature) and quantity. The analysis is presented in the form of a cause and effect diagram. The main causes of problems are identified as arising from materials and production, design, installation, operation, transportation, environment and climate and maintenance.
