摘要
The design of a new product needs a thorough understanding not only of the market requirements but also of the operational constraints of the manufacturing unit. The productivity based approach is useful in reducing the overall costs and time of manufacture. The present work is based on a study which dealt with the generation of synthetic time standards at a factory which was using batch production technique. The work helps us to understand the impact of technological choice on the manufacturing process. An algorithm was developed on how to link the operational aspects of manufacture with the product design. The economic aspects have been considered in order to evaluate the design and analyze the work in a wider perspective. The cases emphasize on using appropriate technology for the given technological software rather than technological developments in the area.
